Today we had our second enriching lesson by our friendly IS teacher, Mr Kent Cheong. Today we touched on three topics: Social Impact of New Media, Intellectual Property: Is Copy Right? and Decide, Blog and Website. I was assigned to reflect on 'Social Impact of New Media' and I shall state what I have learnt about Web 2.0 technology and HCI(Human-Computer Interaction). From what I have gathered so far, Web 2.0 technology is a type of technology where by the visitors of a particular website get to edit the website themselves, unlike Web 1.0, where by only the creator of the website is allowed to edit the website.
On HCI, I learnt that HCI technology is a technology in which a machine can read the sounds of humans and can interpret it correctly. Personally, I think that this kind of technology is a big leap in technology and I hope even more advanced versions of this kind of technology will be invented in the near future.
Next topic was called' Intellectual Property-Is Copy Right?'. I watched a video posted on the discussion forum. From the video, I learnt 3 important issues. Firstly, it is not right to download any unauthorised material from the Internet for commercial use without permission from the copyright owners, furthermore, you must also give credit to the source when and where necessary. Secondly, one cannot perform any unauthorised photocopying of hard copy materials, also, only up to 10% or one chapter of any book is allowed for photocopying, and it must only be done for personal use, not commercial use. Lastly, unauthorised reproduction of others' works is strictly restricted and their permission must be granted before reproducing their work.
The last topic was ' Decide Blog or Website?'. After watching the video, this are my thoughts: I feel that a blog and a website both have their pros and cons. A blog is easier to edit and changes are more easily undone. However, a blog has limited functions, as compared to a website. On the other hand, a website has more functions and it can be used by the creator to perform many tasks, like advertising a certain item or starting a forum, etc. However, a website is hard to edit and once something goes up, it's hard for it to be removed. Personally, I would prefer a blog as it is more simple and still has pretty decent features.
This is what I have learnt in the second lesson of IS.

About Me
I am turning 13 this year and my hobbies are playing sports, reading books and playing computer games. I like to play sports like basketball, badminton, etc, but my favourite is soccer. My favourite football club is Liverpool and my favourite player is Steven Gerrard. I like Mystery and Suspense novels, among many types. I seldom play computer games, but I would occasionally play them to relieve my stress. My old Primary School is Poi Ching School, which is in Tampines. I take the school bus to Hwa Chong daily as I live in Tampines. As a form of relaxation, I will go for a swim or take a mental break when I feel too stressed out.
